What Happens if You Vomit

The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is used to measure how your body processes glucose. During the test, you will be asked to drink a glucose solution and have your blood sugar levels measured over a set period of time. For the test results to be accurate, the glucose drink must remain in your system throughout the test.

Why Vomiting Affects the Test

If vomiting occurs during the test, the results may no longer be reliable. This is because the glucose drink may not be fully absorbed by your body, which means the blood glucose readings taken during the test would not accurately reflect how your body processes sugar.

What Happens Next?

If you vomit during the GTT, the test cannot be completed and will need to be repeated on another day. Your healthcare team will arrange a new appointment so the test can be performed again under the correct conditions.
