Drinking during the Test

Modified on Thu, 27 Aug at 11:01 AM

The Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) measures how your body processes glucose after drinking a glucose solution. Because the test tracks changes in your blood sugar levels over time, it is important that no drinks other than water interfere with the results.

Can You Drink Liquids During the Test?

During the test, you should not drink any liquids other than small amounts of water. Drinks such as tea, coffee, juice, or even sugar free beverages can affect your blood sugar levels and may invalidate the test results.

Why Is This Important?

The glucose drink given at the start of the test is carefully measured to monitor how your body responds to it. Drinking liquids other than water during the test may interfere with this process and lead to inaccurate readings.
